Family

So, how is everyone feeling about this “meh” winter we are having?

Week 3-3

Yeah, me too Arch. All we want to do is go play in the snow (or the “no”, as Archer calls it – THE CUTEST), but there is just mud and rain. It either needs to snow, or be spring already!

Week 3 was a busy one, but aren’t they all? Sunday we had a family nap after skating, and finished the night off with a little birthday party for Meme. Archer was more than happy to help open cards and gifts.

Week 3-1Week 3-2

Bath time is always such a great time to bust out my camera, especially when it has been a few days since I’ve picked it up. It’s one of the spots in our house that I don’t need to think about my settings, just turn my camera on and shoot away.

Week 3-5Week 3-4

Our house was hit pretty hard with the flu last week, so I didn’t pick up my camera between Monday and Friday. But don’t worry, I made up for it on the weekend!

Any of you other parents remember the days of bathroom privacy? Nah, me either.Week 3-6Week 3-7Week 3-8Daddy, what you doin’ in der?

Week 3 of 52 |Project 52 | Chatham-Kent Lifestyle Photography

First off, thank you everyone for the kind words you have shared this week. It feels great to be back to blogging, and with a new project always brings a new energy. I hope you all enjoy following along through our little life.

Week 2 has been filled with some beautiful moments that at one point in my life I would have most likely viewed as mundane, even boring. Things like bath time, dinner conversations, saying good morning to the dog or playing trains for the millionth time. Expecting baby #2 and spending my days with a toddler has given me a whole new appreciation for these “in-between” moments. They are the ones you might miss if you weren’t paying attention. The moments that are so routine and a part of our daily schedule that we almost forget they even exist. One of my goals of this Project 52 is to capture more of these moments, because in the end, all of these tiny little mundane moments are the ones that make up our most meaningful days together. And the way I feel about life right now is something I never want to forget.

Week 2-1

Week 2-2

Archer is at the age now where we have started to give “time outs”, and he actually understands when he has done something wrong. All of my photographer friends will likely understand why I might have designated this wonderful little pocket of light as the time out corner.

Week 2-3

A quick trip to Home Depot last weekend ended up being the highlight of Archer’s day. They had a kids workshop going on and by chance we showed up just as it was starting. While Eric shopped for a new toilet Archer and I built a spinning box, and Dad returned just in time to help with the finishing touches.

Week 2-4

A curious little helper during the install process.

Week 2-5

And a nice little Saturday afternoon visit with Nanny, introducing her to all of the trains and showing her how they work. Their conversations are hilarious, by the way:

A: “Das Thomas, and Pewcy, and James”

N: “Pussy? Why would you call the train Pussy?”

Week 2-6Week 2-7

Sunday brought us a lazy day spent inside while the snow came down outside. The little nap-figher crashed on the couch for 2 hours and when I discovered him holding his little ear I just about melted.

Week 2-8Week 2-9

Monday I snuck in another day at home with my main man and we decided to paint some trees

Week 2-11

*bump photobomb*Week 2-12Week 2-13

Archer has some funky toe nails, and when he is not wearing socks he cannot keep his hands off his feet, asking me to trim his “finger toes nails”Week 2-15

And because I haven’t embarrassed him enough yet, I will finish off week 2 with a little toddler bum. This little man is getting so independent (aside from when he is asking to be Mummy’s baby), I couldn’t help but soak up this little attempt at getting in the bath on his own.

Week 2-10

Cheers to the mundane.

Week 2 of 52 | Project 52 | Chatham-Kent Lifestyle Photography

Welcome back to the new and improved blog! After my blogging kind of fell to the wayside last year, I decided to try to pick it up again this year and incorporate it into my brand-spanking-new website! Thank you all who followed along for the first half of our year last year, I was truly humbled by all of the sweet comments I got on both the writing and the images. I have never viewed myself as a good, or even mediocre, writer, so to get compliments on that really made my day!

After successfully completing my 365 in 2015 (fist pump!) I decided to take on a new challenge this year: A project 52 of our year, including some journalling to go along with the images. Similar to what the blog was last year I guess, but with less time behind the camera and editing I am hoping to spend more time writing. I don’t have the greatest memory at times (I don’t remember what Archer’s first word was… I might be the worst mother ever…), so I am trying to write more down with the hope that I can look back on it later and remember. I do plan on writing a blog post with some of my favourites from 2015 for anyone interested in the last 30 weeks of the year (ha!)

So without further ado, I give you Week 1.

That’s right. A measly 4 images to share! After taking approximately 10,000 pictures of Archer last year (not even exaggerating, probably underestimating), I took a solid 3 day break from my camera starting December 31st at noon, and man did it feel good. When I brought it skating with us on January 3rd I felt refreshed and creative.

Week1-1

Archer loves skating, and even though he can’t quite do it yet on his own he is always asking to go (probably more for the timbits that always follow a visit to the area, but don’t tell Eric that). This was his 5th or 6th time out on the ice, and the time before this he finally took a few strides on his own without Eric holding him or the guide (!!), so we thought this time would be just as good or better. We were wrong. On his way out of the change room Archer caught a glimpse of a goalie who was getting ready for her game right after free skate.

Week1-4

A little fact about Archer is that he is obsessed with goalies. To the point that he stands in the net at home and asks Eric to fire pucks at him for hours. And calls himself Goldberg. So you might have thought that seeing a goalie would be a bit of a treat for him, but it ended up being a major distraction, and he spent the next 30 minutes kneeling on the ice looking for the goalie and asking where the goalie was.

Week1-3

I’m not sure who was more frustrated at this point: Archer, who could not for the life of him find that damn goalie; or Eric, who stood there trying to get Archer to stand up.

Week1-2

Now, let’s all hope for my wallet’s sake that this goalie obsession is just a phase.

Yours,

B.

  1. Krista says:

Speaking from my personal experience (thanks Ethan) kids are born to be goalies. E was the same way at Arch’s age. Have fun.

  2. Rosa says:

I love your blogs! Congrats on the website:)
