Mitchell's Bay Couples Session

Before we get to Steph & Jonnie’s Mitchell’s Bay couples session, let’s talk about dream sessions for a minute. What would be on your checklist? Mine:

  1. Fun, relaxed couple – check
  2. Up for anything – check
  3. Trusts my judgement – check
  4. Willing to go with the flow – check
  5. Sunset – check
  6. Some sort of outdoor activity – check

Steph and Jonnie’s Mitchell’s Bay couples session literally checked all of the boxes. We met at their house and hung out for a bit, then hopped on the golf cart to explore the Bay and beach area (because do you even live in the Bay if you don’t own a golf cart?). From there they changed into sweats, hoped on the boat and we headed out on the water to watch the sun go down.

It was a super humid and hazy day, and all day Steph and I were texting about possibly rescheduling. Finally we just said let’s go for it! And I am so glad we did. We got rained on a bit, but had so much fun just hanging out at the Bay. It might not be your traditional golden hour, but the haze made for a very cool look.

Now for the best part of this Mitchell’s Bay couples session…

Mitchell’s Bay at sunset is always incredibly gorgeous, and then add in all of this haze, it was so unique! We snuggled up on their boat in comfy clothes and headed out for a quick dip!

Working with Victoria and Ben so far has been an absolute treat! They were on my calendar early for their fall engagement session and I was looking forward to it for months! Even before the pandemic, Vic & Ben were planning an intimate backyard wedding and in every conversation I had with them it was clear their focus was on their marriage, not just on their wedding day. Even amidst the ever changing restrictions in the province, their goal remains to be married this coming Spring, however that may look.

We met at a local trail for their fall engagement session and had the perfect evening. Like most couples, this was their first time getting professional photographs taken, and it was my first time meeting Ben. We started out slow with some easy poses and prompts, and then as we all got comfortable together we had lots of laughs and some steamy moments too ;). The two of them were so easy together and were more than willing to be exploring outdoors with me – we all left with some dirt on out boots! It is clear they are very much in love – I think you can see that!

Couples like this make me believe in beautiful things. Their story together started young, but the love and respect they show each other is beyond their years. Their dedication to their marriage and future together is admirable. I cannot wait for their wedding in May!

Jamey-Lyn contacted me for their engagement session after being referred by her sister Audrey, a long time client of mine. Her and Brent were engaged but not planning to be married for a few years. They were open to the ideas I had for their session and seemed very laid back and excited for the session. We had a great time getting to know each other and they were so fun and easy to work with – I can’t wait to work with them again in the future!

We met at C.M. Wilson Conservation Area in Chatham which was a spot they frequently go to together and where they share a lot of memories. When I was driving in I noticed the perfect wheat field where I knew the sun would set and asked if they would be down to check it out a bit later on – and boy I am glad we did!

Jamey-Lyn told me that they had been engaged at a Kid Rock concert the summer prior and they wanted to incorporate it into their session with the shirts they bought that day. I always love when couples want to incorporate something meaningful or nostalgic into their sessions, and I also love Kid Rock, so heck yes!

Things got a little steamier as we watched the sun go down. These two were totally open to anything I suggested and it was so much fun!

Here’s what Jamey-Lyn had to say about their engagement photos:

“Hey Brittany! I want to thank you again for doing our photos. They are stunning and we are so happy with them! Seeing them this morning definitely made our day! We are hoping you will be available to do our future photos and will definitely contact you when we pick our date! Thank you again!”

Sunset Maternity Session, Brittany VanRuymbeke

When we were planning Meg and Jake’s sunset maternity session I asked her “How do you feel about hanging out in a wheat field?” Her and Jake were totally down, and her grandparents who live on a beautiful farm in Port Lambton just happened to have wheat planted all around them this year. It was meant to be! Wed had the perfect summer evening where it wasn’t too hot and we weren’t chased away by mosquitoes the minute the clock struck 7.

You would never guess it, but Jake and Meg had never had professional pictures taken together. They were also recently engaged, so I made sure to include that part of their story as much as I could. We already knew each other going into the session and they were comfortable with me, but I reassured them it would be relaxed and fun.

We had some fun in the wheat field and around the farm and waited out the clouds for that glorious summer sunset we all spend our winters dreaming about. We ended up having a lot of laughs together and it went down as one of my favourite sessions from this year. Pregnancy isn’t always everyone’s favourite moment of life (thank you heart burn), but it is such a special time to document. Your life is on the brink of change, and your heart is full of gratitude and wonder.

Liberty Village Engagement

Lauren and Randy invited me to their neighbourhood for their engagement session. Liberty Village is basically a photographers playground – tons of exposed brick, industrial vibes, trendy restaurants and cute store fronts. We had a lot of fun exploring and getting to know each other better. Lauren and I have a mutual friend and had met on a few occasions before they asked me to photograph their wedding, so this was a great way for Randy and I to get comfortable and we could all chat about their day.

We walked around the neighbourhood and found so many wonderful spots. They were as excited as I was to try a few things and as you can see their chemistry is amazing! We finished off the afternoon at a nearby bar where my husband joined us for a few beers. It was really an amazing day, and a wonderful engagement session – one that left me in awe of this job and what I get to do! I am really excited to see them again for their wedding next year in Hamilton.

Matt and Em have been friends of mine for a long time. Fun fact, Matt and I lived together in university and he was my dogs favourite human.

These two are getting married this summer in Newfoundland and I am SO STOKED to be tagging along to create their wedding film. For their engagement session we went to this super cool old bridge near Em’s house. She had been keeping this location on the DL for a long time and I have had so many people as me where this is. Do you think I could find it again? Nope.

The sun was awesome for their session and we had so much fun hanging out, drinking a few beverages and laughing about Laurier memories. I can’t wait to hang out with them on the other side of the country and get to explore the east coast with some friends and my boys!

Allison and Wayne had some fun planning for their engagement session. We met at Wayne’s family farm and headed just down the road to a friends house to shoot with some vintage cars. I don’t know anything about cars, so I don’t know if “vintage” is the appropriate word, but they were bright and fun! The blue truck you will see below was actually Wayne’s truck when he was in high school!

I had a lot of fun hanging out with them and their smiley pup! We had a lot of laughs and talked about their wedding day and honeymoon plans. I love when we get to incorporate some home properties and nostalgia into sessions and this one did not disappoint! Wayne cracked me up because he was was all in for the PDA but also kept laughing and saying his brothers were going to razz him after they saw the pictures! I don’t think anyone can deny their connection though – they were natural and easy!
