Personality Portraits: A Simple, Timeless Way to Capture Your Kid’s Personality Right Now

Children’s Studio Personality Portraits in Chatham Ontario

If your kid’s most recent photo is a school picture with a stiff smile and a laser background, I get it. Between activities, sports, school, and everything else on your plate, booking a full family session can feel like one more thing you don’t have time for — even when you know you want new photos of your little one.

That’s exactly why I am now offering Personality Portraits quarterly.

Not another mini session — just your kid, being them

These aren’t themed. There’s no seasonal set, no props I’m handing you, no pressure to coordinate a whole look. Personality Portraits are quick, low-lift studio sessions built around one thing: capturing your kid, exactly as they are right now — their expressions, their favourite toy or costume, the little quirks that make them them.

It’s not about the activity or the scenery. It’s 100% about your kid.

And that’s what makes them feel so different from school photos or a quick phone snap. You get a real, timeless portrait — one that actually looks like your kid, not a posed version of them.

From babies to teens

Whether your kids are just starting to sit up or heading off to college: any family can benefit from these quick sessions. Every season of their growth is worth capturing, and these simple backdrops leave room for kids at any stage.

What a session actually looks like

Each session is just 15 minutes — booked back-to-back with other families so we can keep things moving, but that short window is plenty of time for us to warm up to each other. Most kids are a little shy or unsure for the first minute or two, and that’s completely normal. We chat, we laugh, I ask them ridiculous questions, and before long they’ve forgotten a camera is even in the room.

A few things that help:

  • Bring a toy or costume they love. It gives them something to hold onto (literally) and it’s often the fastest way to get them out of their shell — plus it becomes part of the story of who they are right now. As a sports mom, jerseys are my personal favourite.
  • Parents, stay close. You’re welcome to hang out just off-camera, sing a silly song, make a weird noise (potty humour is welcome here!!), whatever gets your kid smiling. Whatever helps them feel comfortable is fair game.
  • One outfit, and you’re done. No need to plan a whole wardrobe or coordinate the family. Pick one thing your kid feels good in, and I’ll take care of the rest.
  • Let go of expectations. Similar to all types of sessions I offer, this is about your kids true personality. If they are naturally shy, don’t push it! Shy photos are just as adorable as the wild and crazy ones.

Why quarterly, and why now

I’m offering these sessions a few times this year — November 2026, February, April, and June 2027— so if one date doesn’t line up with your schedule, you’re never waiting long for the next.

That rhythm also makes these a really natural way to track how much your kid changes. Baby to toddler, toddler to kid — the shifts happen fast, and a quarterly portrait means you actually have a record of it instead of realizing a year went by with barely a photo taken.

And while I always think it’s worth getting in the frame with your kids when you can (moms are welcome to jump in for a photo, too!), I also know that sometimes what you actually want is just a beautiful, simple photo of them — something to print and hang on the wall, no fuss required. Personality Portraits are built for exactly that.
